SUMMARY:

Leading Central Florida based foundation contractor, mainly in the electrical power market, looking to add to it's remarkable team with experienced Truck Drivers. Hauling Heavy Equipment on Flatbed (Landoll), (Lowboy) Trailer and 53' trailer. This is a traveling job. Must be willing and able to travel and stay overnight. Competitive pay/benefits are offered based on experience and ability (hourly wage starts at $21-22 per hour range with per diem paid at a rate of $261/week) Company pays for Hotel. Health insurance premiums are 100% company paid with vision and dental policies available with employee contributions to premiums on those two elected coverages. Participation starts after 30 days of employment. Company is a “drug free” company. All candidates must agree and submit to alcohol/drug testing and be able to pass (non-drug user). Drug testing is done for all illegal drugs and includes testing for Marijuana, regardless of possession of a “Medical Card” or not. Also, candidates must agree to background checks. Substation Testing Technician

SUMMARY:

Growing publicly traded electrical contractor with offices in Leesburg, FL and work in the high voltage utility space (Transmission, Substation and Distribution) is looking for a Substation Testing Technician that has the flexibility to spend large amounts of time in Puerto Rico to assist with System Improvements. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 5 to 10 years in specialty testing and diagnostic including but not limited to CB trip tests, relay routines, breaker condition tests (gas and oil sampling searching for moisture and SO2 in SF6 gas), transformer testing (oil sampling, oil processing, etc.) The candidate will lead and perform protection and controls testing, operate test equipment, and utilize their experience in the fundamentals of electrical system components and overall structure. The ideal candidate has; solid planning, organizing, time management, communication, and problem-solving skills and completes work with a focus on safety, quality, human performance, and a safe sense of urgency.

Initial focus will be running tests on Puerto Rico based substations. Looking for a self-motivated individual eager to produce productive, efficient, and accurate testing. This position will support the Superintendent.

ESSENTIAL/ NON-ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Adheres to internal standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Minimum of 5 years of field experience in commissioning, panel and equipment checkout, relay calibration, testing and repairing substation relaying and control schemes
  • Experience is desirable in any of the following related areas: substation design (including protection & control engineering); substation construction; substation commissioning; SCADA/Fault Data/SER/Integration-Automation equipment installation and testing
  • 3 phase power systems; power system protection & control schemes; test equipment; test equipment software
  • Test equipment and toll/wiring usage; interpretation of wiring and elementary diagrams; basic test skills to perform duties listed above;
  • Learn and apply test procedure for various types of substation equipment; communicate effectively with diverse groups, tailoring communication for audience and situation
  • Learn and apply client’s switching procedures and safety measures as required
  • Reference and complete assignments as described in applicable specifications
  • Ability to troubleshoot electrical controls

  • Must be willing to work flexible hours and overtime, and occasional weekends, holidays and nights.

  • Ability to read and understand TTR test results
  • Lead medium and high voltage substation protection and control (P&C) system and equipment testing and commissioning projects of varying complexity, both greenfield and brownfield.
  • Lead daily pre-job briefs, perform job hazard analyses, promote safety and Human Performance Improvement (HPI) awareness;
  • Develop detailed, and often complex, testing and commissioning plans, including, but not limited to, identification of required testing, circuit isolation and restoration, project sequencing, construction coordination, scheduling, outage and energization planning, in-service checks, and associated roles and responsibilities.
  • Oversee, coordinate, direct and assist other testing and commissioning personnel or electrical contractors.
  • Perform hands-on testing and commissioning of medium and high voltage P&C systems and schemes
  • Read, interpret, troubleshoot, and effectively utilize electrical drawings and schematics during the testing and commissioning process to meet the design intent
  • Review, interpret and troubleshoot equipment test results.
  • Perform energization and in-service checks to validate electrical quantities.
  • Maintain and control an accurate set of project testing documentation.
  • Interface with company Department Managers, Area Leads and Project Managers for active project support, proposals, budgets, estimating, scheduling, change orders, request for information, discrepancy logs, etc.
  • Interface with Client or Owner's Engineer field and engineering personnel.
  • Provide excellent customer service by developing and maintaining professional and respectful client relationship.
  • Mentor less experienced department personnel on all the above.
  • Testing and commissioning of electrical transmission and distribution, substation projects with voltage levels ranging from 15 kV to 500 kV, Three-phase power system
  • Testing of microprocessor protective relays and schemes associated with, but not limited to, transmission lines, busses, power transformers, capacitor banks, feeders, breakers, etc.;
  • Testing medium and high voltage substation apparatus including, but not limited to, instrument transformers, circuit breakers, transformers, and capacitor banks;
  • Testing of AC and DC station service systems including, but not limited to, transfer switches, panelboards, battery systems and battery chargers
  • Substation apparatus test equipment including, but not limited to, Omicron, Doble, Alber, Megger, AEMC, Fluke, HV, DILO, Biddle, Vanguard, etc.
  • Proven experience with Electrical Field-Testing standards, practices, and procedures such as NETA, IEEE, NFPA applicable standards
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
  • Electrical Safety Training (OSHA 10/30, NFPA 70E, etc.)

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or Trade School Graduate in Electric Utility Substation & Relay Technology
  • or related field with strong “on-the-job-training” (OJT) experience.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience High, Medium, and Low voltage testing of electrical power equipment
  • Knowledge, hands-on experience, and a basic understanding of the operations of power transformer oil processing equipment including the performance of vacuum, oil filing, circulating, and draining
  • Prefer NETA Certification (II or III) or equivalent skills
  • Knowledge of ANSI/IEEE/IEC standards as they relate to transformer testing
  • Ability to troubleshoot electrical controls
  • Ability to read electrical schematics
  • Test mobile and power transformer based on engineering documents, customer specifications and IEEE standards
  • Cable testing - Tan Delta, Power Factor, VLF, DC Hipot
  • Transformer Testing- TTR, Winding Resistance, Insulation Resistance, etc.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose problems
  • Recognize opportunities for improvement and take action
  • Collaborate with electrical engineers and other personnel to identify, define, and solve problems
  • Perform installation, commissioning, testing and maintenance of protective relaying equipment
  • Perform function testing of substation control circuits on relay panel, transformers & circuit breakers
  • Prepare and maintain reports detailing all tests, repairs, and maintenance performed
  • Testing, including (without limitation): reading/verifying all voltage and current inputs to relays; verifying all metering (local and SCADA); calibrating all relays; trip testing (local and SCADA); verifying all alarms (local and SCADA); verifying all alarms (local and SCADA); verifying all function switches, etc.
  • Performing routine troubleshooting and repair of substation relaying and control equipment. Commission new substations, power equipment, relaying (electro-mechanical, solid state and microprocessor), pilot channel equipment (power line carrier, pilot wire, transfer, transfer trip, fiber optic, CVT’s, line tuners, line traps, etc.), controls and communications equipment
  • Planning, scheduling, and completing test activities efficiently, on time, without service interruptions

As a journeyman lineman you will install, maintain and repair all overhead transmission and distribution electrical systems and associated equipment, while utilizing line trucks, aerial booms, ladders, lifts and wire pulling equipment. Maintenance of lines and services will require pole climbing, hot sticking, and working out of truck mounted buckets and lifts to construct, repair or maintain line equipment or string, splice and sag wire on live or dead circuits. Operate switches, cutouts and use grounding devices to work on de-energized lines and equipment. You may train and direct the work of a trainee in the trade. (Must be willing to stay and work in Miami-Dade for 10-on / 4-off hitch.) 


Job type: Full-time with OT

Make needed repairs whenever possible to ensure a safe and reliable system

Ensure facilities remain reliable and efficient

Assist in emergency repair and power restoration after outages

Respond reliably and timely to calls during regular work hours and off regular work hours

Respond to after-hours work needs and assist with emergency repair of the transmission and/or distribution electric system

Account for all construction materials (issues, returns, salvage, etc.) properly

Perform duties safely and in accordance with company and OSHA accident prevention rules

Physical Demands:


This position requires typical physical demands found in the construction industry, which includes but is not limited to:


Heavy lifting working on ladders, vehicle/equipment operation, electrical hand tool operation, digging, outside and inside work

Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds frequently and 100 pounds occasionally

Climb in/out of a bucket truck

Squeeze tools to 80 pounds of force

Climb poles; drive large vehicles and heavy equipment

Work Environment:
